As the harsh reality of the recession of ‘08 began to set in, many aspiring restaurateurs were unable to branch into the brick and mortar food scene. With financial restraints standing in the way, we began to see a much more economical version of the restaurant appearing on the scene- the modern day food truck, aka. the perfect stepping-stone into the high-risk restaurant industry.

This trend began to gain momentum in the Los Angeles Area. Combine the fast paced nature of this bustling city with a business model built around the concept of instant gratification and you get exactly what this demographic is looking for. Locals now had access to convenient, high-quality meals that were easily accessible.

This developing industry began to pick-up speed simultaneously with the rise of social media and as a result the presence of food trucks exploded across the country. Trucks were offering everything from organic to greasy-spoon meals, emphasizing different signature dishes from all corners of the world. Glancing at our very own food truck scene, the vast variety of options available is quite impressive. To name some of our favorites: Hola Arepa, the founders graciously brought the Venezuelan Arepa into our lives. World Street Kitchen, these innovative bites represent the chef’s favorite dishes while crossing cultural barriers. Their plates highlight items from Asia to the Caribbean and everything in between. Their enticing cocktails and desserts are worth mentioning as well. Smack Shack – a seafood lover’s haven. From classic Connecticut style Lobster Rolls to Po’ Boys inspired by the Deep South – this food truck turned restaurant has created one of the best local spots to get your salty seafood fix. By 2011, Zagat created a food truck category –a telling sign that their credibility had been established within the industry.

With our love of food trucks it should come as no surprise that D’Amico just launched their first ever food truck, Bushel and Peck! The menu is designed to perfect summertime classics- think burgers, brisket, and chill dogs taken up a notch– if you’re looking for great, casual fare in under ten minutes this is the place for you. Look for us at our home-base just outside the Mill City Museum, located in downtown Minneapolis.

We hope you’re as excited as we are!
